Tweet Often
Keep your followers thinking about you and your Twitter by tweeting a few times each day so your updates are always in their stream. Just don’t overdo it. No one wants to read what you’re doing literally every five minutes.
Make Them Laugh
Unless you are a well-known business or an information source, you’re not going to get very many followers to stick around if you can’t entertain them. Post things that will make people laugh and feel good about themselves every day.
Hashtags Are Your Friend
Hashtags (#thisisahashtag in case you weren’t sure) are a great way to get people reading your tweets. By adding hashtags with popular words, it’s like you’re waving down readers with a flag to come read your tweets.
Be an Expert
If you’re really knowledgeable or talented in a certain skill, try sharing some of your wisdom with your followers. This will work well for you if you’re good about responding to the questions your followers may have.
Be Yourself!
A lot of people use Twitter to look better or more trendy than they really are. Don’t get caught up in this idea because your followers will be able to tell when you’re being genuine or when you’re just acting fake to get more followers.
Respond Regularly
Getting mentioned in someone’s tweets is kind of exciting. Everyone can see the conversation between the two parties and it’s great promotion because it keeps your Twitter name showing up on the other person’s page.
Do Follow-Backs
“Follow Friday” is a great way to get your Twitter promoted by other users. Every Friday, decide on a certain number of new users you’re going to follow then mention all of them in a few tweets with the hashtag #followback or #followfriday. It will make people feel special because you’re telling people to follow them and they will almost always return the favor.
Post Photos!
There is a reason you can post photos to every social media site out there. People love to look at photos more than reading updates. You can even link your Twitter to Instagram so every time you post a photo there it will show up as a tweet.
Avoid Too Much Foul Language
The internet is a glorious place of free expression, however there are a lot of people that don’t enjoy certain dirty or four letter words. Try to cut down on swearing too much if you don’t want to risk offending followers.
Avoid Hot Button Issues
Unless it’s a “rock the vote” sort of tweet, try to avoid sharing your every though about politics and other hot button issues. This is one of those subjects that people seem to fight about too much, especially on the internet.
Avoid Arguing Publicly
Everyone loves a good Twitter feud between celebrities but it’s a much different story when it’s just you calling out some guy because he said something rude about your last tweet. If you have to handle a Twitter feud, there's always a direct messaging feature.
Mention Companies
Do you love to shop as a certain store? Talk about it and give them a good shout-out every now and then. This works in your favorite because it gives your followers another account to check out and most of the time, business will re-tweet your tweets about them which can get you even more followers!
Rocking tips Rebecca!!!
