How to Shed That Baby Weight Fast

Tips to turn that baby bulge into a beautiful body, fast!

Eat More Fiber

Your body has just undergone a lot of changes and it is about to go through a few more so try to make things easy on it. Eat fiber rich foods like fruits or oatmeal to ensure your intestinal tract is running smoothly and flushing out the toxins as needed.

Drink More Water

You probably got used to drinking more water than usual while you were pregnant so keep that up now that your bundle of joy is here. It's a good habit to get the whole family involved in!

Don't Workout Too Soon

You must always wait until your doctor gives you clearance to can work out. A lot of women choose to ignore this important step but you risk injury if you work out any sooner than six weeks after delivery (sometimes longer) which will only set you back more.

Reverse Baby Curl

For a fun “playtime” with your baby, lie on your back and place them on your chest. Bend your knees to your chest, gently resting the baby on your shins (holding them in place for safety) as your thighs angle to 90 degrees. Engaging your abs, gently lower your shins and the baby until your feet are slightly off the ground. Bring legs back to the 90 degree angle and repeat this slowly 10-15 times.

Baby Stabilizer

There are many easy ways to exercise while caring for a Baby. For example, use her as a stabilizer while standing by holding her directly in front of you. Keeping your shoulders down and your back straight while holding your baby in two minute increments will work your core and help tone those muscles.

Around Your Waist

To further engage these muscles, pull in your waist in the same way it would be pulled while wearing a corset. Imagine you’re having the strings tightened up as you sit or stand in a sedentary position. If you have trouble remembering to keep this up, tie a string around your waist when it is pulled in the tightest. If you slack, you’ll feel it and remember to keep your tummy tight.

Sit Up Straight

To engage the muscles that cause that little post-baby pooch in your abs, sit up straight with your shoulders down. Pull your belly button in towards your spine and make sure you are still breathing correctly.

Don't Severely Diet

New moms need to stay energized and positive to get through the next few months as best as possible. Cutting out calories is needed to lose weight but it can be risky for new mothers, especially if they are nursing because they will need some extra calories to produce milk. Stick to exercise for your weight-loss and see your doctor about the best time to try a gentle weight-loss diet again.

Start Small

You may not feel like hitting the gym (and who could blame you?) but there are plenty of little things you can do with baby in tow to say goodbye to that belly. Something as simple as going for 30-minute walks pushing Baby in a stroller can help you beat the bulge. It will be a good bonding time if you include other family members too.

Cut Out Salt

You probably got used to watching your sodium intake during your pregnancy as you tried to nourish a healthy baby and avoid common problems like high blood pressure. Keep with that habit and try to keep reducing your sodium intake. You’ll find your have less bloating and you may also drop some pounds and inches from it!

Dump Sodas

You’re a mom now and a big part of that is making healthy, responsible choices that will benefit you and your family. You may want to consider giving up soda as one of those new, healthier choices because by cutting it out you are saving yourself from unhealthy levels of sugar, caffeine, sodium and carbonation which can cause bloating and weight gain.

Give it Time

We’re always inundated with these headlines of celebrities that were able to shed their baby weight like a month after giving birth and other ridiculous claims but for the average woman, this is impossible and even a bit unhealthy. It will take months to get rid of the extra weight and for some women, it never goes away completely. Remember to love your body in every shape.

Eat Slowly

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book for weight loss. By eating slower you will find that your body will feel more full on less calories and you will need smaller portions to satisfy hunger. Remember that the brain takes a few minutes to register that is is full.

Eat More Bananas

Bananas, or any potassium-rich foods, such as spinach or apricots will help your body to process food better. It will relieve bloating issues because potassium counteracts sodium and helps the body flush excess fluids.

Avoid Crunches

According to Julie Tupler, a nurse and author of Lose Your Mummy Tummy, "Crunches put pressure on the tissue that connects the outermost abdominal muscles, which can further separate them."
